It works as a file server, printer server in a Windows Network. It's easy, but not simple. Our target is "Business Usability" The functions are limited. However, functions as a file server have been implemented completely. To "ensure data protection",user can set access authorization parameters for each shared folder, and it is supporting disk mirroring, UPS functions, automatic backup functions, etc.
NAS, Appliance vs Radish vs Server OS
The role of a file server

"Radish" is booted from the CD-ROM and runs from the CD-ROM. No installation is required, stable operation and virus resistant.
the characteristics of CD-ROM operation refer to, "Product Info".

The role of a file server The most important role is the file protection and sharing. As businesses rely more and more on computers, data loss and corruption are fatal to a company. Data should be put into a computer with the proper measures taken, like backup, disk mirroring, UPS etc. This is the basics for all companies who are utilizing computers.
A server with huge capacity, low price, low administration cost is now a reality! A huge capacity, low priced HD is loaded in an old PC. A 200GB class low cost file server can be easily realized. Server hardware isn't the only cost you need to keep in mind. The server OS license fee, client access license fees, set up fees and administration costs thereafter. For "Radish", it only takes 10 minutes to set up (depending on disk size), unlimited clients license and administering it is a breeze.
Unbeatable performance "Radish" isn't a low function, makeshift server. With the right hardware, it can compare with the capability and speed of Windows2000 servers. It doesn't run directly from the CD-ROM during operation, the response does not deteriorate.

Authentication Integration with Existing Windows Domain If a Windows domain is existing in your network, you can transfer the authentication of "Radish" to the domain controller (or Windows workstation). Access authentication to the FTP/Macintosh server from "Radish" will also be transferred, hence a integrated authentication environment can be established. Unified authentication of several "Radish" servers is also possible. Network backup / synchronization Automatic backup / synchronization to a Windows PC or FTP server on the network is possible by "Radish".By backing up to another computer or a computer in another location, data protection is enhanced. You can have a backup server for any unforeseen trouble.
All setting information is saved into one floppy disk. All information regarding user/group, shared folders, authorization, backup can be stored in one floppy disk. As long as you have this floppy disk and the "Radish" CD-ROM, you will be able to reproduce the same setting environment. This will come in handy when a trouble occurs, server upgrade or when creating a server clone.
Monitoring of the Disk residual quantity/Log
Monitor the residual quantity of the disk, log regularly by an appointment timing and send an email to a manager if there is abnormality.
You can easily watch a disk residual quantity to care about by the management of the file server, a disk disorder, unjust access.

Scene used •For SMEs, SOHOs without a system administrator.. As a low cost, huge
capacity file server that doesn't require any system
administrators. •For Medium, Large Sized Corporations... As a
floor server placed in every floor or an office server where there
is no system administrator. •For schools.. Schools would be
the ideal stage for "Radish" to solve issues like administrator
problems, the trouble of having a server, user (students)
administration, etc.
Case Study • Using an internet VPN to access the company server from your home.

 |
| FTP server |
Access to a shared folder from an FTP client is possible with the same user authentication/authority as towards a Windows/Macintosh. |
 |
| Printer server |
A printer that connected to the "Radish" server's parallel port, or a printer that is connected via TCP/IP network to a printer server can be used as a shared printer by the clients. For Macintosh, certain types of printers like Postscript printers can be shared. |
 |
| User/Group administration |
User/group registration.
Shared folder
authorization can be set per user/group basis. User/group
can be registered in one lump by text file. |
 |
Automatic backup/ Synchronization •Local disk •Remote Windows
Sharing •Remote FTP server
|
Data in
the shared folder will be backed up at the specified day,
date, time. You may specify a local disk, remote windows
sharing or remote FTP server as the backup
location. By specifying to synchronize, another computer
can be made to function as a backup server. |
 |
| Supports UPS |
Supports any UPS model as long as it is
able to receive power outage signals through a serial
(RS-232C) cable. Automatic shutdown during a power
outage. |
 |
| Disk Mirroring/RAID
|
If 2
disks are connected, software mirroring is
possible. Hardware RAID is possible with a supported
SCSI/IDE/RAID card. |
 |
| DHCP server |
Distribution of IP address, WINS server,
default gateway, DNS server address is possible. DHCP function
can be switched off too. |
 |
| DHCP client |
If a
DHCP server exists in the network, a IP address will be
configured automatically. |
 |
| Primary Domain Controller
|
Primary
domain controller can be configured.
Does not
support Windows2000 Active Directory.Windows2000 Acti‚–e Directory. |
 |
| WINS server |
WINS server functions. |
 |
| Authentication Integration
|
Authentication can be transfer to the
Windows domain controller, 2000, XP (Pro) computer if existing
on the network. Authentication on the network can be
managed in one lump. Furthermore, authentication will be
same for Windows, Macintosh, FTP. |
 |
| Access Restriction |
Access
for administrative tools, Windows, FTP etc can be restricted
to the local network only. |
 |
| Monitor function |
Monitor a disk residual quantity, the error information, and if there is a problem, e-mail a manager automatically. |
